Use Cut Yarn to Make Your Own Embellished Throw Pillow

Everybody deserves an excuse to sparkle! Put that sentiment front and center in your own life with a DIY yarn “sparkle” pillow. Using a care of paper+palette as my inspiration, I came up with a straightforward and simple approach to embrace diamonds in our living room, and you can, too.

For this project, you’ll need a plain white pillow (I purchased mine at a local craft store for less than $10), colored yarn, craft glue and scissors. Start by cutting small pieces of yarn, about 1 foot in length, knowing that they will be trimmed as you work. It’s easier to handle the yarn in smaller pieces as opposed to wrangling the whole spool.

Lay your pillow flat on the floor and then carefully squeeze out a line of glue in the shape of a gem. My diamond art print served as the perfect inspiration. I started with a five-sided silhouette, then went back in and added a cross sign in the middle and finished with four diagonal facet details.

After completing the diamond shape, I felt like the pillow was missing a little something, so I started playing with cursive yarn letters and eventually settled on a single word: “sparkle.” The word went on in the same way that the diamond did. I laid down a line of glue and then gently laid the yarn on top. After drying overnight, the glue lines disappeared and I was left with one fun throw pillow! So… how do you sparkle?
